Never be lacking in zeal
but keep your spiritual fervor, serving the Lord.
How?
Be joyful in hope,
Put your hope in Christ as if your life depended on it.... it does
Your joy will come when you are fully trusting him...No body can take the Joy of your salvation from you... because when you belong to Him, nothing can separate you from his love: neither angels, nor principalities, nor things present, nor things to come. Christ wants you eternally secure so that you can focus on your purpose
patient in affliction,
Affliction will come: Jesus told his followers that if they treat me bad, what do you think they will do to you? Expect affliction, and know that our "light and momentary troubles will achieve for us an eternal glory that far outweighs them all."
faithful in prayer.
2 Problems I see with prayer
First with people who don't or won't.... Don't try to tell me your a Christian and you don't like to pray! Try telling you wife you are married to her and don't intend to speak to her anymore...
Second problem: Time & Place.
Some people only want to pray when there is hard work to do. These types want to pray in the air-conditioned sanctuary while there is work to do that take effort and discomfort. They would rather go on a prayer retreat in the Hilton than a mission trip in the jungle. They would rather circle up and sing "kum by yah", than pack clothes in the hot sea containers or set up chairs, or work in first impressions. The fact is they are lazy and have found prayer to be an excuse. They don't come to the times of organized prayer, they only want to pray when it is time to work.
Share with God's people who are in need.
After prayer...do! You see a need, meet it. Don't put it off to someone else. God has resourced you to meet needs.
Practice hospitality.
Your home? / God's Home
Your Funds ? / God's Funds
Your Time? / God's Time
Open your home and host a small group
